The University of Southampton (SOTON) is one of the leading Universities in UK. Founded in 1952 and member of prestigious Russell Group of UK Universities, it is an excellent venue for conducting cutting-edge research and providing high quality education. Southampton has been ranked 11th in the UK based on the volume and quality of its research in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. Over 97% of the University’s research environment has been assessed as world-leading and internationally excellent. Nearly 90% of its research has been assessed as having world-leading and internationally excellent impact. The University of Southampton is made of 8 faculties which cover a wide range of subject areas. The faculty of Engineering and the Environment is a world-class centre for education, research and enterprise and represents the largest and most diverse engineering and environmental science grouping in the UK. The Faculty participated to over 10 ITN projects since 2002 and is the recipient of a large number of grants funded by UK research councils. In the latest REF the faculty scored first in the country for volume and quality of its research and performed really well in the three assessment categories, which include research outputs, impact and environment.
